While New York City is often the focus of attention when it comes to the state’s beautiful attractions, there are plenty of other things to see and do in the Empire State. Some of these include the Thousand Islands, Lake Ontario, and Niagara Falls.

 

During the winter season, there are plenty of places to be visited in the state, such as the Whiteface Mountain resort. There, adventurous skiers can take advantage of the former Olympic courses. The Catskill Mountains are also known for their lavish spa facilities and proximity to the city. New York residents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy luxury camping in their backyards.

 

Selkirk Shores State Park

The Selkirk Shores State Park is located on the banks of Lake Ontario and offers a wide range of activities, such as fishing, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, and camping. During the winter season, the park is also known for its various snow sports, such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

 

The park is also a great location for bird watching as it’s located on a migration route that’s popular for various bird species. You can also take a dip in the Salmon River or head over to Sandy Island Beach State Park.

 

Chenango Valley State Park

The park’s two kettle lakes, Chenango and Lily, are known for their various fish species, such as bass, trout, and bullhead. Bird watchers can spot warblers, herons, and kingfishers. The 18-hole golf course is also a must-visit for those who love to play golf. During winter, park visitors can also participate in cross-country skiing or sledding.

 

The park’s campground features 24 cabins and 184 campsites. There are also three pavilions that can accommodate up to 800 people. These facilities are ideal for various events, such as weddings and birthday parties.

 

Green Lakes State Park

One of the main attractions of the Green Lakes State Park is its crystal-clear waters. These are known as Round Lake and Green Lake.

 

The park has plenty of activities for visitors, such as swimming and fishing. It also offers a variety of hiking trails and a golf course. During the winter season, the area is great for cross-country skiing.

 

There are multiple types of camping sites available, such as RV sites and tent sites. The park is also home to several fire pits and picnic tables. It’s a great location for a weekend getaway and is just 15 minutes away from downtown Syracuse.

 

Eight Lake Campground

The Eight Lake campground is located on the southeast section of the lake. It offers a variety of activities, such as boating, fishing, and hiking. It also has ponds with salmon.

 

The campsites at the Eight Lake campground are large and well-wooded. They can accommodate up to 40 feet of RV or tents. The picnic area features fireplaces and tables, and there are also flush toilets.

 

There are plenty of amusement facilities in the Old Forge region, such as golf courses and restaurants. The area also has a museum at Blue Mountain Lake.

 

Cranberry Lake Campground

This campground is situated beside the beautiful and tranquil waters of the lake, and it’s perfect for both vacationing and outdoor enthusiasts. It features a sandy beach, a boat launch, and a fishing pier. The area is also home to numerous hiking trails that are ideal for experienced climbers and novice hikers.

 

The first 15 campsites were built in 1935. In 1937, vault latrines and a bathhouse were added. Today, there are 171 campsites that are spread under the forest canopy, and they provide shade during hot summer days. Other facilities include a picnic area with grills, fireplaces, and tables, as well as flush toilets.

 

New York State is known for its beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and mountains. It also has plenty of attractions that are not only related to the famous Empire State Building. If you’re planning on visiting the city, staying in a hotel near the center can be costly. But camping is a great alternative for those who are looking to explore the area on a budget.
